U.S. Special Envoy Gration Traveling to Sudan and Ethiopia

U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan Scott Gration is currently traveling to Sudan and Ethiopia from May 3, 2010 to May 9, 2010. In Sudan he is visiting Khartoum, Juba, and Nyala (Darfur); in Ethiopia he is visiting Addis Ababa.
In Khartoum, Special Envoy Gration is meeting with top UN officials, Sudan envoys, and ambassadors from member countries of the Assessment and Evaluation Commission, a body charged by the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) to work with the parties to monitor implementation. In Juba, Special Envoy Gration will continue his consultations with leaders of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and the Government of Southern Sudan to discuss the remaining issues around the full and complete implementation of the CPA. Special Envoy Gration will also travel to Nyala, in the Darfur region, to meet with United Nations/African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) officials. Finally, Special Envoy Gration will visit Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to participate in African Union meetings on Sudan to discuss regional strategies and international coordination in support of CPA implementation and the Darfur peace process.
