The statement below is attributable to Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus:‎

Under Secretary for Political Affairs David Hale met today with Sudanese Foreign Minister Asma Abdalla.  Under Secretary Hale underscored unwavering U.S. support for Sudan’s democratic transition and praised the civilian led transitional government for its efforts to advance peace, prosperity, and human rights in Sudan.  The Under Secretary highlighted the importance of completing the formation of the transitional government by establishing the Transitional Legislative Council.  The Under Secretary and the Foreign Minister discussed progress in peace talks between Sudan and armed opposition groups, as well as the need to continue implementing domestic economic reforms.  The Under Secretary underscored America’s concerns with the situation in Libya and requested Sudan’s support in implementing UN Security Council resolutions aimed at resolving that conflict.  The Foreign Minister and the Under Secretary reviewed the need for Sudan to meet all relevant policy and statutory criteria for rescission of Sudan’s State Sponsor of Terrorism designation.  The Under Secretary underscored that compensation for the victims of terrorism remains a priority for the U.S. government.
