Assistant Secretary Linda Thomas-Greenfield will travel to Monrovia,
May 15-17, 2016, for high-level meetings and to deliver a major speech.
Her trip to Africa started in Abuja, Nigeria, where she attended the
second Regional Security Summit with Deputy Secretary Antony Blinken and
Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism Justin Siberell.
In Monrovia, Assistant Secretary Thomas-Greenfield will meet with
senior representatives of the Liberian Government, including President
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, to discuss bilateral and regional issues. She
will deliver a speech focusing on the challenges facing Liberia and the
2017 presidential elections at the African Methodist Episcopal
University. She will also tour a school named after her at the Edward
Binyah Kesselly military training facility and barracks. The Assistant
Secretary previously served as U.S. Ambassador to Liberia.
