March 24, 2016

The United States congratulates Cabo Verde for its successful parliamentary elections, held on March 20, that were once again free and fair. The elections and the peaceful transfer of power they brought about reaffirm Cabo Verde’s position as a model of democracy in Africa.

I congratulate Ulisses Correia e Silva on the historic victory of the Movement for Democracy (MpD) party. The United States looks forward to continuing our partnership with Cabo Verde to strengthen governance, promote economic growth and development, and build enduring cooperation on regional security.
