On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Comoros as you mark the 40th anniversary of your independence on July 6. Our nations share an enduring commitment to freedom and democracy. The return of the Peace Corps to Comoros is the latest example of a close partnership that will last for many years to come. The United States shares your determination to improve economic opportunity and advance education. We are committed to continued cooperation in the areas of regional security and cultural exchange.
On this joyous occasion, I wish all Comorian people peace and prosperity in the year ahead.
