Department of State
Washington, DC
October 1, 2013
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I
congratulate the people of Guinea as you commemorate 55 years of
independence on October 2.
The United States recognizes the progress Guinea has made in security
sector reform and consolidating its democracy during the past several
years.
We value our relationship with the Government of Guinea and its role as a partner in regional peace and stability.
The United States will continue to work closely with the Government
of Guinea on common economic development goals, from health and
agricultural reform to women’s rights and transparency in the mining
sector.
On this special day, we share Guineans’ pride in what they have
achieved and look forward to deepening our cooperation in the years to
come.
