Department of State
Washington, DC
June 24, 2016
On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I would like to
extend my warmest congratulations to the people of Mozambique on the
41st anniversary of your independence this June 25.
The United States and Mozambique share a close partnership. Since our
countries established diplomatic relations in 1975, we have worked
together to support economic prosperity, good governance, and regional
stability. When construction is complete, our new embassy in Maputo will
stand as a symbol of the strong and enduring ties between our two
peoples.
I wish the people of Mozambique a joyous National Day and a bright and peaceful future.
