U.S. State Department Counselor Thomas A. Shannon Travels to Kenya and Uganda

Counselor to the Department Thomas A. Shannon is traveling to Kenya and Uganda from September 12-15. He will be accompanied by Steven Feldstein, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. The Counselor will meet with senior Kenyan officials to discuss regional issues, including the South Sudan peace process, and to follow-up on the August U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. During this visit, he will also discuss U.S. support for community-based conservation practices and efforts to combat wildlife trafficking.

On September 14, the Counselor is scheduled to travel to Uganda where he will meet with senior government officials, also to discuss regional issues and to follow-up on the August U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. In Kampala, he will also meet with civil society representatives.
