Africa Leadership Congress (ALC)











Columbia, Maryland Tuesday May 18, 2010 - Leaders from the African Diaspora communities in the Washington, DC area met today at the Sheraton Hotel for the inaugural launching committee meeting of the Africa Leadership Congress (ALC), a new powerful platform aimed at uniting U.S. based leaders with a heart for Africa. ALC was conceived over a year ago by a number of Church leaders in the country and will bring strong and focused leadership, mobilize Africans in the Diaspora and resources for both the Diaspora community and the African continent. The formal launch of the organization is scheduled to take place in September of this year in Washington, DC.

In his opening remarks Bishop Darlington Johnson, ALC, Vice Chair and Presiding Prelate of Bethel World Outreach Ministries (third from left) stressed the need for a stronger leadership framework within the African Diaspora community in the United States. “There is a need for we African natives in the Diaspora to better organize ourselves for the development of our people, our host country and of course the African continent” he said, and appealed to the members of the committee to be dedicated to the vision of ALC.

Pastor Kemi Onanuga, Chair of the Planning Committee and Associate Pastor at Jesus House, DC (second from left) also listed the areas where ALC will concentrate its efforts. They include economic and political empowerment, family enrichment, media and information, education, health & environmental matters and immigration and legal affairs.
